The matching method

Three steps from enquiry to first lesson.

No browsing endless profiles. Tell us what you need and a person — not an algorithm alone — handpicks the tutor we'd choose for our own family.

Tell us what you need

Subject, level, exam board and goals — plus a little about how your child learns. Two minutes, no account required.

2

We match a vetted tutor

3

Lessons begin — and progress is tracked

Sessions start within days. We check in after lesson three and re-match, free of charge, if the fit isn't right.

Why our tutors are different

We turn away most tutors who apply.

A degree isn't a teaching qualification. Whether they're a current undergraduate, a recent graduate or a qualified teacher, every Lyceum tutor clears the same four checks before they meet a student — and stays under review afterwards.

of applicants are accepted onto our books in a typical hiring round.

01

Strong subject knowledge

Undergraduates at strong universities, graduates and qualified teachers — each tutoring subjects they've excelled in and, often, recently sat themselves.

02

A live teaching trial

Every candidate teaches a real mock lesson assessed by our academic team. Knowing a subject and teaching it are not the same skill.

03

Enhanced DBS & references

Enhanced background checks, identity verification and two references confirmed before a first session — without exception.

04

Ongoing review

Feedback after every block of lessons. Tutors who slip below our bar leave it. The vetting never really stops.

In their words

What families tell us.

"Our daughter went from a predicted 5 to a 7 in Maths in two terms. What changed was the tutor actually fitting her, not just being available."

CHClaire H.Parent · Wimbledon

"Finding a real Bac tutor in London felt impossible until Lyceum. Theirs had sat the Bac herself — she understood the grand oral instantly."

MBMathilde B.Parent · Lycée family

"The re-match offer is what sold me. We never needed it — but knowing they stood behind the match said everything."

JPJames P.Parent · A-Level

"My tutor didn't just cover content. He taught me how examiners actually mark, and my essays jumped a grade band."

TATom A.Student · Year 13

"Booking was effortless and the standard was obvious from the first session. You can tell they actually vet people."

Good questions

Before you ask.

For most subjects we propose a matched tutor within 48 hours, with first lessons usually beginning the same week. Specialist Baccalauréat and admissions matches can take a little longer to get exactly right — and getting it right is the point.

We check in after the third lesson. If the match isn't working, we'll re-match you with someone new at no extra cost. You should never feel stuck with a tutor who isn't right for your child.

Yes — it's a core part of what we do, not an afterthought. Our Bac tutors have taught the French system and many sat the Bac themselves, covering the spécialités, the grand oral, philosophie and Parcoursup, in French or bilingually.

Lessons are online by default — it gives you the widest choice of tutors, wherever you are. Some tutors also offer in-person sessions, and we'll flag it when a match does, so you can choose.

Four stages: proven subject mastery, a live assessed teaching trial, enhanced DBS checks with references, and ongoing review after every block of lessons. Fewer than one in twelve applicants make it through.

A real person reads every request. We shortlist from tutors we've already vetted, then send you one considered match — not a directory to trawl.
